Abortion Pill in Morristown, NJ
Committed to Providing the Safest and Most Effective Abortion Pill
The abortion pill is a non-surgical abortion often referred to as a medical abortion. This early option is available to women within the first 11.6 weeks (83 days) of their pregnancy.
The medication regimen we use in our New Jersey and New York clinics consists of TWO (FDA-approved) medications. Free and low-cost abortion care is available here.
How the Medical / Medication Abortion Works
We Use BOTH Medications Despite its Increased Cost
The medication abortion uses two FDA-approved medications administered in sequence to safely end a pregnancy.
1. The first medication is a hormone blocker and is the only FDA-approved non-surgical option for early abortion.
2. The second medication helps your body gently start contractions so the contents of the uterus can be passed naturally. This process works for most people—about 95% to 97%—without any need for a surgical procedure. In a small number of cases (about 3% to 5%), a follow-up surgical procedure may still be needed to complete the process safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the abortion pill?
The abortion pill is a safe, non-surgical method to end an early pregnancy. It uses two FDA-approved medications taken in sequence and is available to women within the first 11.6 weeks (83 days) of pregnancy.
How does the abortion pill work?
The first medication blocks the hormone needed to continue the pregnancy. The second medication, taken 24–48 hours later, helps your body gently start contractions to pass the contents of the uterus naturally.
How effective is the abortion pill?
The medication abortion is highly effective. About 95% to 97% of patients do not require any additional surgical procedure. In a small number of cases (3%–5%), a follow-up surgical procedure may be needed to safely complete the process.
How far along can I be to take the abortion pill?
The abortion pill is available to women within the first 11.6 weeks (83 days) of their pregnancy. If you are further along, a procedural abortion may be an option — please contact our office for more information.
Is the abortion pill the same as Plan B?
No. Plan B (the “morning-after pill”) is emergency contraception used to prevent a pregnancy from occurring. The abortion pill ends an existing pregnancy and is a separate medication regimen.
What can I expect after taking the medication?
After taking the second medication, you can expect cramping and bleeding as your body passes the pregnancy. This is normal. Our team will provide complete aftercare instructions and is available to answer any questions during the process.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Low-cost and free or reduced-cost abortion care may be available through grant programs. Please contact our office to learn more about your options.
